These active fish are best maintained in species-only aquarium. There is some debate as to whether this species is best maintained in fresh, brackish or marine water, and although high KH freshwater may be suitable for younger specimens, older fish may require the addition of salt. This can often be seen by a darkening of the usually white ventral region to black.
